Emergency Relief and Protection for Families Displaced by Structural Collapses in Tripoli
Because of the support from the Doria fund, we managed to assist 160 women and girls displaced between 11 and 50 years old, from South Lebanon and affected by the building collapse in Tripoli, residing in temporary accommodations and in shelters. The support included providing dignity and hygiene kits and conducting group psychosocial support sessions led by a PSS Trainer. These activities contributed to restoring a feeling of safety, dignity, and integration into society of displaced women and girls. To increase the efficiency of support provision, hygiene products consisted of family-sized products (1000 ml), such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, liquid hand wash, hand gel, tissues, shower gel, feminine pads, and nail clippers. It allowed us to provide support not only to women but to their families, including children. In total, the program helped almost 650 people indirectly. The distribution took place at different shelters: Al Mai Al Oula and Al May 2 School, Al-Zahriya Al-Tabana Official Girls' School, Hotel Institute shelter centre, Zariyah school First Girls' School, Mina, and women and girls in Tripoli whose homes and buildings had collapsed due to severe structural conditions, leaving many families homeless and without safe shelter. These women faced extremely difficult humanitarian and psychological conditions, and the support provided helped ease some of their daily challenges while reinforcing their sense of dignity and community support. During this activity, members of the Leading Hands team worked closely with people residing in shelters, listening to their demands and coordinating activities with the Ministry of Social Affairs to make sure that assistance was provided effectively, appropriately, and in a timely.
